CENTRAL FLUSH: CENTREX 1000
Composting Capacity
5-7 Weekend / Vacation Use Only
• Non-Electric • Regular Capacity
The Centrex 1000 model is ideal for those who have electricity and want a unit for a light seasonal application.
In light to medium seasonal use the Centrex 1000 is typically able to hold compost for the full season, and compost needs extraction only in the Spring.
The Centrex 1000 features a 260 watt heater in a sealed compartment under the unit and the standard Sun-Mar 25 watt turbo fan and 2" vent stack to ensure odorless operation.
All 1000 series units are supplied with a 1" drain hose which should be connected to the 1" drain at the bottom left of the unit.

CENTRAL FLUSH: CENTREX 1000 NE
Composting Capacity:
4-6 Weekend / Vacation Use Only
• Non-Electric • Regular Capacity
The Centrex 1000 NE was recently re-engineered for better compost flow to include input doors on the left and an output door on the right. This output door is only open when the drum is rotated backwards to extract compost.
Other changes include a larger finishing drawer, easier access for maintenance, and a redesigned access port which is secured by a catch.
In light to medium seasonal use the Centrex 1000 is typically able to hold compost for the full season, and compost needs extraction only in the Spring.
The Centrex 1000 NE does not normally need a 12 Volt fan for the 4" stack, but a 1.4 Watt fan is available if required (where a bend needs to be installed in the vent stack, a 12 Volt fan is required).
All 1000 series units are supplied with a 1" drain hose which should be connected to the 1" drain at the bottom left of the unit.

4-6 Weekend / Vacation Use Only
• AC, NE, or 12 Volt • Regular Capacity
The Centrex 1000 AC/DC is a hybrid power unit meant for light seasonal applications where the availability of AC power is uncertain. Employing a dual vent stack, the 1000 AC/DC is vented passively in the event of a power outage, or can be used solely on a non-electric basis until 110v power is put in. You can choose to hook up both or just one of the vents, depending on your power situation.
In light to medium seasonal use the Centrex 1000 AC/DC is typically able to hold compost for the full season, and compost needs extraction only in the Spring.
The Centrex 1000 AC/DC features a 250 watt heater in a sealed compartment under the unit and the standard Sun-Mar 30 watt turbo fan and 2" vent stack to ensure odorless operation. It also features a 4" vent stack which is meant to passively vent the unit when non-electric operation is required.
This unit is ideal for those who do not have power now but are expecting it in the future, or for those who have generators that can only run part-time.
All Centrex 1000 series units are supplied with a 1" drain hose which should be connected to the 1" drain at the bottom left of the unit.

CENTRAL FLUSH: CENTREX 2000
Composting Capacity Residential Use: 4-6
Composting Capacity Weekend/Vacation Use: 7-9
• Electric • High Capacity
Perfect for medium to heavy seasonal or light residential use, the Centrex 2000 allows for both a longer composting cycle, and larger waste volumes than the 1000 models. The increased surface area in the evaporating chamber coupled with the larger heating element also provides better evaporation on electric units.
When used seasonally by up to 7-9 adults, compost will normally only need removing annually each spring. In residential use compost will have to be extracted more frequently.
When used residentially by up to 4 adults, some compost will need to be emptied into the finishing drawer once every few months.
The Centrex 2000 features a 370 watt thermostatically controlled heater in a sealed compartment under the unit and the standard Sun-Mar 30 watt turbo fan, with a 2" vent stack to remove evaporating liquid and fresh odors.
The Centrex 2000 is supplied with a 1" drain hose which should be connected to the 1" drain at the bottom of the unit.

When used seasonally by up to 7-9 adults, compost will normally only need removing annually each spring. In residential use compost will have to be extracted more frequently.
The Centrex 2000 NE (Non-Electric) is the non-electric version of the Centrex 2000 which is fitted with a 4" vent stack. Installation of a 12 Volt fan is optional, but it is recommended for heavy seasonal, residential use, or where the installation is particularly subject to downdraft, being surrounded by high trees or hills. We also recommend the fan if you need to install a bend in your vent stack.
2000 series units are supplied with a 1" drain hose which should be connected to the 1" drain at the bottom of the unit.

The Centrex 2000 AC/DC features a 370 watt thermostatically controlled heater in a sealed compartment under the unit and the standard Sun-Mar 30 watt turbo fan, with a 2" vent stack to remove the evaporate and fresh odors. This may be used when the unit is in AC operation.
For easy switching between AC and DC mode, the Centrex 2000 AC/DC requires that 2 vent stacks be installed to handle the separate venting functions. The 2" vent is in use when the AC fan is in operation, and the 4" vent is venting the unit passively when there is no power available. As an extra option, we include a 12 Volt 1.4 Watt fan with the Centrex 2000 AC/DC. You may want to install this fan if the unit is to see maximum capacity use, and you should install the 12 Volt fan if you have to put any bends in the 4" vent stack, as you will then lose the "chimney effect" advantage of a vertical stack, and will need to provide air movement with the fan.
You may just install one vent if you only plan on using one function. If, for example, you do not have 110v AC power yet but anticipate getting it in the future, you can install just the 4" vent and leave the 2" vent capped off.
The Centrex 2000 AC/DC is supplied with a 1" drain hose which should be connected to the 1" drain at the bottom of the unit.

CENTRAL FLUSH: CENTREX 3000
Composting Capacity:

• Electric • Extra High Capacity
The Centrex 3000 utilizes a continuous flow design for very heavy cottage or medium residential use. With a continuous flow system, rotation of the drum moves compost along the larger and longer 3000 series drum, before it drops automatically into the collection housing at the end of the unit. Under normal operating conditions the drum will not have to be turned backwards for emptying.
All Centrex 3000 electric units feature a 370 watt 120 volt thermostatically controlled heater in a sealed compartment beneath the unit coupled with the standard Sun-Mar 30 watt turbo fan and 2" vent stack. This heater assists in evaporation of liquids, reducing the amount of effluent from the unit. The fan also removes any fresh odors from the unit, ensuring odor-free operation.
All Centrex 3000 series units are supplied with a 1" drain hose which should be connected to the 1" drain at the bottom left of the unit.
This unit is for use with a Sealand low flush toilet, purchased separately. More than one toilet may be installed on this system, as shown in the picture.

The Centrex 3000 AC/DC also features a 4" vent stack which may be used to vent the unit when no electricity is present. Included with the unit is a 12 volt 2.4 watt fan that we strongly suggest installing in the vent stack, especially if you need to put a bend in the vent as shown in the diagram.
All 3000 series units are supplied with a 1" drain hose which should be connected to the 1" drain at the bottom left of the unit.

CENTRAL FLUSH: 1 PINT FLUSH TOILETS
Color Choice: White or Bone
Sun-Mar offers a selection of 1 pint flush toilets for use with regular Centrex 1000, 2000, and 3000 series central composting toilet systems. More than one "1 pint flush" toilet can be installed with these units if necessary. The constraint is the number of people using the system rather than the number of toilets.
Using about one pint per flush, these ultra low flush toilets provide all the advantages of a flush toilet while minimizing water usage. They are ideal for use with Sun-Mar Central Composting Systems, but can also be used with holding tanks, overloaded septic systems, and in RV's.
A simple foot pedal flush opens the water valve and gate when pushed down, and fills the bowl with water when lifted. After flushing, a small amount of water is held in the toilet bowl which is sealed by a self-cleaning ball valve and teflon seal. Even gravity-fed water from a roof tank is sufficient to flush a 1 pint flush toilet. In winter they can be flushed manually using a container if necessary.
The 1 pint flush toilet has a regular sized toilet seat. In some instances extra height is needed to allow the toilet to gravity feed to the composting unit. Where this is the case, the 1 pint flush toilet is availabe in a low profile model with a 10" seat height, can be mounted on a platform.
For Sun-Mar installations, we recommend the 510 Plus as the unit of choice as it has the size and appearance of a "regular" toilet. 1 pint flush toilets are available in either White or Bone. They come complete except for the required 3" four (4) bolt floor flange.

SELF-CONTAINED: EXCEL
Color: White or Bone
Composting Capacity
3-4 Residential
6-8 Weekend and Vacation Use
• Electric • High Capacity
The Excel is the best-selling unit in North America and for good reason. It is a high capacity Bio-drum toilet that is very simple to operate, features well proven technology and is extremely reliable. The Excel was the first ever self-contained composting toilet to be certified by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF). So, when you purchase an Excel, you are literally purchasing a composting toilet that sets the standard.
The Excel has enough capacity that it can be used just about anywhere; in residences, cottages and even in light commercial applications.
To simulate residential use the Excel was tested by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) at maximum capacity for 6 continuous months, during which the Excel produced no odour and produced a clean, safe compost. Only Sun-Mar self-contained units are listed for residential and cottage use by NSF, whose Standard #41 is the toughest composting performance standard in the world.
The 2" vent is attached at the top back of the Excel and can be installed invisibly by running it through the wall and up the outside wall. For comfort the Excel has a sturdy detachable footrest which can be removed to pull out the finishing drawer.
In normal use the Excel can normally evaporate all liquids, however a ½" emergency drain is fitted at the rear and this should be connected if the unit is to be used residentially or heavily, or if prolonged power outages are expected.

SELF CONTAINED: EXCEL NE

Composting Capacity
2-3 residential,
5-7 weekend & vacation.
• Non-Electric • Regular Capacity
The success of the Excel design meant that a three chamber unit could be specifically designed for those with NO continuous 110 volt supply. First launched in 1981, the Excel NE has long been the standard toilet for those living off the grid. A 1998 redesign gave the unit a rounded look, and recessed the drum handle.
The Excel NE has no fan or heater. Odorless operation is achieved by a 4" vent mounted at the top rear of the unit which acts like a chimney on a wood stove. For good air movement the vent should be installed vertically and to 2-3 feet above the peak of the roof.
The optional 12 Volt Fan should be installed if you need to install the toilet with any bends in the vent. No more than 2 45° bends are encouraged, even with the fan.
If the Excel NE is used residentially or heavily, or is in a place which is subject to downdraft, the optional 12 volt fan should be installed in the vent stack. This fan draws 1.4 watts and can be powered by a solar panel and 12 volt marine battery.
Evaporating capacity on the Excel NE is variable, so the 1" drain at the rear should be connected to an approved drain pit, container, or other facility Please click here for more information on handling excess liquid.

Composting Capacity
In AC Mode: 3-4 Residential, 6-8 Weekend Use
In DC Mode: 2-3 Residential, 5-7 Weekend Use
• Electric, NE, or 12 Volt • High Capacity
The Excel AC/DC is a standard 115 volt Excel unit, but with 1" safety drains at the rear and dual (2" and 4") vent stacks.
The unit uses the regular 2" vent when 115 Volt power is available and defaults to the 4" NE vent when it is not.
A 12 volt 1.4 watt fan is included for use in the 4" vent stack.
The Excel AC/DC is for those with generators operating over 12 hours per day, or for people that expect to have continuous 110 volt power available in the future.
The 1" overflow drain on the Excel AC/DC should be connected if the unit is being used heavily in AC mode, and if it is being used in DC or non-electric mode. It will only evaporate all liquids while working in the AC mode continuously. Click here for more information on handling excess liquid.

SELF CONTAINED: COMPACT
Color: White or BoneComposting Capacity
Residential: 1
Weekend / Vacation Use: 3-4
• Electric • Medium Capacity
The Compact is an elegant low profile unit with the looks to complement any bathroom. Sun-Mar engineers designed this low profile toilet by developing and patenting a new variable diameter Bio-drum which is small at the front and large at the rear. To maintain the uninterrupted lines of the Compact, a patented Bio-drum handle recesses into the body of the unit to mix and aerate the compost.
The Compact differs from the Excel in that all three chambers are smaller, which makes the Compact ideally suited to light residential or light to medium cottage use.
As with the Excel, a 2" vent stack attaches to the rear of the Compact. A 1/2" emergency drain at the rear offers protection against heavy or residential use, or prolonged power outage.

SELF CONTAINED: SPACESAVER
Color: White or Bone
Composting Capacity
Residential: 1
Weekend / Vacation Use: 3-4
• Electric • Medium Capacity
The SPACESAVER is a standard three chamber unit designed specifically for situations where space is extremely limited. With a width of only 19" and depth of 22", even a closet or small corner can now be turned into a bathroom!
The SPACESAVER is fitted with the same kind of high quality turbo-fan as other electric units have. The difference is that on the Space Saver, a 3" vent stack is included.
The SPACESAVER has almost the same size Bio-drum as the COMPACT, so composting capacity is similar to that of the Compact. On the other hand, evaporation is limited by the smaller heater and evaporating surface, so the safety drains should be connected. Click here for more information on handling excess liquid.

SELF CONTAINED: SUN-MAR MOBILE – No pump-outs!

For fore and aft and RV installation - AC only on heater

The Sun-Mar Mobile was the first composting toilet specifically designed to recycle waste on boats and recreational vehicles. Less pump-outs! No more chemical toilets! Recycling brings freedom, with the ODOR-FREE operation of a Sun-Mar.
The Design of the Sun-Mar Mobile
Although the Sun-Mar Mobile uses Sun-Mar's tried and true three-chamber system, "marinizing" the unit led to some interesting adaptations. The need to be able to handle violent motion meant that the finishing drawer had to be gasketed so that no liquid could escape from the evaporating chamber.
The air intakes face the same problem. These have to be located higher up and the air ducted down to the evaporating chamber.
At the same time, a special drum locker ensures that the composting drum is held upright under all sea or road conditions.
Space constraints mean that a fold-away foot rest is needed on the unit. This footrest has spring loaded legs, and a safety release mechanism to enable it to be removed periodically when access to the finishing drawer is required.
To assist installation, strong mounting brackets are mounted at the base and rear of the unit.
Electrically, the Sun-Mar Mobile units are quite different from other units because of the unique situation on many boats and RV's. A 4.0 Watt 12 Volt fan is installed in a fan box within the vent stack. This fan, (which is on its own circuit) is designed to operate continuously while the unit is in use.
To assist the 12 Volt fan in providing adequate venting, the Sun-Mar Mobile is unique among Sun-Mar units in having a 3" vent stack. Customers need to supply their own deck vents, which should be constructed to allow adequate air movement while preventing seawater from entering the unit.
Carbon and Zeolite Filter
While venting is optimal above deck level, some installations will require that the deck vent is flush with the deck. Sun-Mar has incorporated the use of activated carbon and zeolite filter materials in the fan box to "scrub" the air of fresh ammonia odors. This has proven successful, and ensure odor-free operation at deck level.
Evaporation and Electrical Configuration
Evaporation is aided by a 110 volt, 120 Watt heater and thermostat. This heater is located in the sealed base compartment which on the Sun-Mar Mobile (Sloped Back) also extends up the 45° angle at the rear of the unit.
The thinking in designing a 110 volt heater into the unit was that a 12 Volt supply is often available while the unit is in motion, while the 110 volt heater can frequently be used while the vehicle is in an RV park, or, in the case of a vessel, hooked up to shore supply. There should be enough 12 Volt battery power to keep the 12 Volt 4.0 Watt fan running continuously, and it hooks up on a separate circuit to facilitate this.
Overflow Drain Required
Evaporation capacity on Sun-Mar Mobile units is limited by the size of the heater, the surface area of the evaporation chamber, and the volume of air movement. Consequently, arrangements should be made to connect the Sun-Mar Mobile drains to a container or small holding tank for disposal in an approved manner, especially if you are unable to incorporate the 12 Volt heater option into the unit.
